family photo —

the list.

Yay — it’s time to make your family photo list! Family photos can be the easiest or the most stressful part of the day, and which one it ends up being is entirely dependent on the work you do beforehand. Type your combos right into this list — it saves as you go. A few rules to make your life easier:

01

framed, or posted once & forgotten?

Ask: “is this going to be framed, or posted to Facebook once and never looked at again?” If it won’t be framed, consider grabbing it at the reception on a cell phone — so friends & family can post it right away and you don’t spend precious cocktail-hour time gathering the group.

02

permanent fixture, or new-ish plus-one?

If there’s any doubt about someone’s long-term status in the family, do the photo with and without them. List it back-to-back — everyone feels included, and you’ve got a version without them just in case.

03

use everyone’s first names

The single most important step. Write “Kayla & Rhonda,” not “bride & mom.” It takes the guessing out of “which mom?” and “am I in this one?” and makes everything so, so much faster. Trust us here.

How to use this: the next pages list the most common pairings we see. You might not have all of them — or you might have a whole bunch more — and that’s totally fine. They’re here to inspire you. Just type the real first names into each line you want.

None of these are required. Don’t feel like you need a photo just because it’s listed — skip anything that doesn’t fit your family. And please, add any combos we didn’t list right here. This is your list; the printed pairings are only here to jog your memory.

other photo requests.

the meaningful, easy-to-miss ones we’d never know about unless you tell us.

9 out of 10 photographers don’t need a shot list — we’ve got a whole gamut of photos we take every single wedding day. But there may be specific, sentimental shots that matter to you. This is the place to list those.

for example —

  • You turned grandma’s wedding dress into the cake-table cloth — you want a close-up of it alongside the cake.
  • There’s a blue heart from your dad’s favorite work shirt sewn inside your dress.
  • You were in a sorority and HAVE to get the whole group on the dance floor.
